WPL 2025: Lanning hails bowling unit’s effort in Capitals’ narrow win against Warriorz

Delhi Capitals’ skipper Meg Lanning was impressed with her bowling department following a dramatic win over UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025. The Capitals managed to outstrip the Warriorz in a last-ball thriller, defending a humble score through a steady bowling display. Lanning thanked her bowlers for staying calm in crisis situations and performing as per their plan.

Delhi Capitals batting first could manage only a moderate total as UP Warriorz bowlers, headed by Sophie Ecclestone and Deepti Sharma, tightened their lines. But for the Capitals, an important contribution by Jemimah Rodrigues saw the team salvage a decent total. Though it was not a par score, Lanning was still upbeat about her bowling unit, which had been consistent in the tournament so far.

Chasing the target, the Warriorz looked in control with Tahlia McGrath and Alyssa Healy building a strong partnership. But Delhi’s bowlers, especially Marizanne Kapp and Radha Yadav, turned the game around with crucial wickets in the middle overs. The pressure mounted on the Warriorz, and the Capitals’ fielding efforts ensured they fell short by a narrow margin.

In conversation after the game, Lanning praised the side’s nerve in critical situations. “The bowlers were tremendous. It was not an easy wicket to bat on, and they settled in nicely. All of us kept our calm, and that was the turning point,” she explained. This win helped Delhi Capitals consolidate their position in the WPL points table, with their playoff ambitions still intact.
