Germany Defeats India 2-0 in Opening Match of a 2-match Bilateral Series.

The Indian hockey team is up against the German hockey team in a two-match bilateral series that started on 23rd October, Wednesday. In the first match of the series, Germany defeated India 2-0 and gave themselves a lead in the series. Major Dhyan Chand stadium has been chosen as the venue for both the matches that have to be played between India and Germany. With this series, international hockey has returned to the capital state after almost a decade and the fans also seem to be super excited, but unfortunately, the home crowd has gone through a heartbreak as the young German team registered a 2-0 win against India in the match. The first goal of the match came in the 4th minute, the first goal was scored by a German player Henrik Mertgens which brought Germany to the top with a score of 1-0 in the match at the start. The young German team was seen in full control throughout the first quarter of the match. Germany was at the top of their game and they didn’t give India any chances to score an equalizer goal, during the first quarter the German team was all over the field and running the game as per their wish. Just before the halftime mark the German team got a penalty corner and their captain Lukas Windfeder took full advantage of the opportunity and doubled the lead before the halftime of the match and made the score 2-0. Team India captain Harmanpreet Singh and his team made a couple of opportunities to score the goal but were unable to convert those opportunities into goals. One of the best chances India got to score the Equalizer goal came in the 27th minute, where with the help of a review India got a penalty stroke, Harmanpreet Singh took this responsibility on himself but failed to score the goal as the goal was saved by Germany’s goalkeeper Joshua Onyekwue Nanji. We can say It was quite a frustrating day for team India, as they were not able to convert the opportunities into goals which raised their frustration in the second half. Team India got a few penalty corners also but wasn’t able to take them through to the German team’s defense. The result of the first match wasn’t in the favor of team India as the German team came out victorious by scoring 2 goals which made the scorecard 2-0 and gave Germany the touring nation a top hand in the series. Today that is Thursday, 24th October the final and decider match of the series will be played.
