Champions Trophy 2025, New Zealand vs Bangladesh Highlights: NZ win to end PAK, BAN’s semis hopes
New Zealand registered a significant win over Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy 2025, practically eliminating both Pakistan and Bangladesh from the semi-final contention. In a do-or-die match, the Kiwis dominated with bat and ball, chasing the target comfortably to remain in contention in the tournament.
Batting first, Bangladesh found themselves under pressure against New Zealand’s strict bowling. Even after a good start by Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan, the middle order gave away under pressure. Shakib Al Hasan attempted to stabilize the innings with an important contribution, but wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Lockie Ferguson and Trent Boult dominated with the ball, limiting Bangladesh to a small score of 238 runs in 50 overs.
In response, New Zealand openers Devon Conway and Finn Allen provided a strong platform for their side. Although losing Allen early, Kane Williamson played the captain’s game, leading the chase with an excellent 86-run innings of perfect pace. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips added the finish as the Kiwis chased easily with six wickets remaining and seven overs available. However, the star of the chase was Rachin Ravindra, who smashed a brilliant 102 off 95 balls, ensuring a comfortable win for the Kiwis.
This victory keeps New Zealand’s hopes alive for the semi-finals, whereas Pakistan and Bangladesh have been eliminated from the competition. The competition for the knockout stage now heightens as the group stage reaches its end.
