India expressed its interest and sent a ‘letter of intent’ for hosting the Olympics and Paralympics 2036.

For hosting the 2036 Olympics India made its first move by sending the ‘letter of intent’ and expressing its interest towards hosting the 2036 Olympics to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It is not confirmed but it’s rumored that the letter was sent to the Future Host Commission of the IOC on October 1st. The interest towards hosting the 2036 Olympics is followed after the encouragement from PM Narendra Modi making major efforts towards hosting sports events such as the 2030 Youth Olympics. In the 141st IOC meeting in Mumbai, it was publicly announced that India is planning to host the Olympics in 2036. And if India manages to win the bid and host the Olympics it will be the only 4 Asian countries to host the event after China, South Korea and Japan. India’s bid for hosting the Olympics in 2036 also includes games like Yoga, kho-kho, and chess. But as we are very well aware the letter is just the starting phase of the process of selecting the final host with no time limit. Any further decision can only be expected after the IOC election next year, so the process can even stretch longer. All the major details and discussions of the interested nations are done with FHC, irrespective of any specific season. Later they move on to more serious requirements and discuss infrastructure, accommodation, security and other public services. In this stage, only the city or a few cities from the hosting country are finalized. Then an advisory report is prepared which is sent to the IOC Executive after which the final call is made. India may have tough competition during its bid for the Olympics 2036, as the other confirmed countries who are interested in the bid are Chile, Indonesia and Turkey and other rich-cash countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The process for the Olympics 2036 has been slowed due to the internal conflicts in the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), although the government is in full support but still, IOA’s support is important for having a successful bid for hosting the 2036 Olympics.
