IPL 2025: Pooran & Marsh Power LSG to Victory
Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG) earned a vital 5-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in an engrossing match in IPL 2025, courtesy of extraordinary performances by Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh. While pursuing a score of 178, LSG showed maturity and destructive hitting to beat SRH comprehensively.
SRH batted first and had a solid start as their opening pair Abhishek Sharma and Mayank Agarwal shared a reasonable partnership. But LSG’s bowlers, spearheaded by Mark Wood and Ravi Bishnoi, curbed the scoring rate with controlled spells. Heinrich Klaasen again turned out to be the pillar of SRH’s innings, hitting an aggressive 62 off 35 balls, while skipper Aiden Markram chipped in with a solid 45. In spite of their effort, SRH could muster a mere 177/6 in 20 overs, a score that looked competitive but not beyond Lucknow.
LSG’s run chase began on a wobbly note with the loss of Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul early, putting pressure on the middle order. But Mitchell Marsh, who was pushed up the order, took control with a counter attacking 55 off 38 balls. His partnership with Deepak Hooda stabilized the innings before Nicholas Pooran took over. The destructive West Indian again proved his finishing skills, blasting an unbeaten 48 from only 22 deliveries, comprising four sixes and three fours. His bold stroke play made LSG reach the finish line with five balls remaining.
SRH bowlers such as Pat Cummins and Bhuvneshwar Kumar attempted to defend the score but found it difficult to keep the in-form Pooran in check. The victory took LSG up the points table, and SRH lost another game in their season. As the playoffs draw near, both teams will look to step up their games in the next matches. Nicholas Pooran’s heroics and Mitchell Marsh’s all-round performance were the deciding factors as Lucknow won a high-stakes game.
