MI vs DC Highlights, IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians win by 59 runs; Qualify for playoffs

In a crucial IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals, the Mumbai Indians played emphatically and convincingly to win by a commanding 59 runs which guarantees their place in the playoffs. The home team exhibited all-round performance at Wankhede Stadium with both bat and ball as Delhi struggled to find answers all game. 

 

Mumbai were put to bat first and the opening partnership provide a great platform with Rohit Sharma’s innings of responsibility helping to steady the ship as Tilak Varma (77 off 41 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (51 off 24 balls) capitalised during the middle overs. With the innings closing, Tim David blasted his way to a quick-fire 37 off 18 balls, allowing Mumbai to post a total on the board of 198/6 off their 20 overs. The Delhi bowling attack was missing incisiveness on a fast-paced Wankhede wicket with most of the bowlers getting plundered (with the exception of Axar Patel) as panic kicked in.

 

Chasing 199 for victory, Delhi Capitals got nowhere fast. Prithvi Shaw and David Warner were dismissed early, unable to contend with the disciplined seam attack of Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee. The middle-order succumbed to pressure, with only Rishabh Pant offering minimal resistance. Mumbai’s spinners did their bit as well, keeping the run rate under control and picking up essential wickets. In dire straits and unable to recover, the Capitals eventually folded with a disappointing tally of 139 in just 18.2 overs.

 

Jasprit Bumrah was named Player of the Match for his phenomenal spell, with early breakthroughs that wrecked Delhi’s chances. His lines and variations were impressive, leaving the Capitals well and truly gasping at the seams. Bumrah was supported well by Coetzee and Shams Mulani.

 

This massive win not only gave Mumbai two crucial points but also improved their net run rate so they could move ahead of Rajasthan to break into the top four on the table. The crowd was electric, as supporters at Wankhede exploded into celebration, perhaps even daring to dream of a title challenge. Meanwhile, for Delhi Capitals, the defeat is a huge blow to their hopes of making the playoffs, and they now have a must-win scenario ahead of every game they have left.
