How Yuvraj Singh shaped Abhishek Sharma’s batting and Brian Lara made him play golf to improve bat-swing.

India’s upcoming young cricketer Abhishek Sharma attributed his batting style and overall game to former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and West Indies great Brian Lara. While Yuvraj had extensive working experience on stroke play and mental approach, Lara went a bit weird but was most effective when teaching him the skill of golf that would perfect the bat swing.

Abhishek hails from Punjab and was groomed by Yuvraj Singh, who identified his talent early. The 2007 T20 World Cup hero helped Abhishek develop a fearless approach and fine-tune his aggressive stroke-making. Yuvraj, known for his elegant six-hitting ability, shared key insights on timing, footwork, and shot selection, which significantly impacted Abhishek’s game. The left-handed batsman had often confessed that the conditioning by Yuvraj had given him a lot of self-belief and made him a much freer player at home and in the IPL.

Abhishek joined Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, working with Brian Lara, the then batting coach for the team. Lara, as everyone knows him, was synonymous with flawless technique and stylish stroke play. Refining Abhishek’s bat swing was made unique by an introduction to Lara: golfing. According to Lara, that helps improve speed, control in bat, as well as total hand-eye coordination, all considered important elements to a modern day aggressive batter.

The power-hitting lessons of Yuvraj along with the training Lara had for him had brought forth in Abhishek Sharma a better complete batsman. He can be seen with such variety of performance that he has come out to be an absolute dependable top-order batter. Finally, guiding him to make a mark in Indian cricket’s future are such legends with him.
