Jasprit Bumrah out of Champions Trophy squad, Varun Chakravarthy in at Yashasvi Jaiswal’s expense.

With regards to India’s probable squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy, the selectors have come up with a massive shake-up. Jasprit Bumrah missed out of the tournament due to fitness problems. Instead, Indian Selectors have picked Varun Chakravarthy, the domestic and previous T20 leagues sensation, and the mystery spinner, instead of the young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had to be dropped to make room for an extra bowler in the Champions Trophy squad.

India have really been thrown into the deep end with this recent selection. Bumrah has been highly regarded by the Indian fans for a long time. His prowess during power plays and death overs make him crucial for the Indian bowling lineup. Nonetheless, after considering the medical side coupled with what the selection committee believed, he would not make the cut in time for the event. The BCCI is still quiet on the details of the injury, but people close to the matter suggest that capturing value from this decision had a lot to do with it.

With Varun Chakravarthy coming in, it is clear that India wants to bolster their spin department as per the needs of the match. With his exceptional skills in creating illusions, he replaced Ravindra Jadeja along with Kuldeep Yadav.Having performed well in Tests and T20Is, he was thought to make an impact at the top of the order. Unfortunately, the management seems to have favored an extra bowler rather than an additional opener, which is quite puzzling.

As India prepares for the Champions Trophy 2025, everyone will be watching how the new squad structure affects the postseason competition.
