Ranji Trophy: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant disappoint in rare domestic First-Class outing.

Here is the Ranji Trophy 2025 that saw surprising stars in the form of Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant as they failed to impact much in their rare appearances in First Class domestic cricket. The fans were expecting much, seeing them as a boost for the competition, but they could not demonstrate on the grounds.

Rohit Sharma, playing for Mumbai, struggled to adapt to the swinging conditions and was dismissed cheaply in both innings of the match against Karnataka. Known for his elegant stroke play and ability to anchor innings, Rohit’s failure left his team relying on younger players to step up.

Shubman Gill, the opener from Punjab, also had a rare off day. The technically sound opener, who has been a consistent performer at the international level, was outplayed by Saurashtra’s disciplined bowling attack. His dismissal for low scores in both innings was a surprise to fans and critics alike.

Even Rishabh Pant, who was given a much-needed break and played his first competitive game for Delhi after his long injury layoff, couldn’t go past the initial struggle. He showed glimpses of his attacking intent but could not convert starts into meaningful contributions. His struggles were symptomatic of the difficulties of returning to competitive cricket after a break.

Though their performances in this round were not impressive, participation in the Ranji Trophy reminds everyone that domestic cricket helps keep players in touch with the grass-root level. It also provides an opportunity for younger players to compete against world-class talents and enhance the quality of the tournament as a whole.

As the competition progresses, fans will hope these seasoned stars regain their form and deliver the kind of performances that have made them icons of Indian cricket.
