The Indian Premier League (IPL) has a new retention number and a new rule introduced by BCCI.
The Board of Control Cricket in India (BCCI) has come up with new rules to change the working and ongoing process in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the BCCI has come up with a new rule states a two-year ban on players who withdraw their names or announce their unavailability after being picked by a team during the auction, which means if a player withdraws his name after being selected in a team a two-year ban will be imposed on such players. All the cricket boards and players have taken this endeavor very sportingly, former Indian fast bowler Irfan Pathan has posted on X expressing his thoughts and supporting the decision. Pathan who has always been very vocal and stays on the front hoof while expressing his thoughts explains the importance of the rule and the way it will be beneficial to maintain the importance of IPL.Irfan Pathan ” For the last two years I kept talking about this scenario, it feels great that BCCI has decided that players who withdraw their expressions after getting selected in the auction will face a two-year ban, so we can say that IPL is getting stronger in every way.” he wrote on X. This rule is very helpful for the teams also as players will think before withdrawing their name after being picked as it is also very difficult to pick another player for the suitable position. This rule is implemented with a viewpoint that players will be sure of their commitment towards the team before giving their name in the auction, this will also help in adding more reliability and competitiveness in the tournament. The council member of IPL has also set a new rule regarding the retention of players for the IPL 2025, now each team can retain up to 6 players. A maximum of 5 capped players (Indian or overseas) and 2 uncapped players can be retained, and this year the RTM(right to match) return this season, which was previously banned in 2022. RTM is the highest bidder now and will have one last chance to increase their offer for a player before the team holding the RTM card can choose to match the bid and retain the player and the auction purse for the mega auction has also been increased. The impact player rule will be seen there for the next 3 seasons. The auction purse increased for the mega auction is nearly 20 crore from previous years which has been increased up to 120 crore for the 2025 IPL auction.
